Time Converter
Time conversion is arithmetic you half-remember: 3,600 seconds in an hour, 86,400 in a day, 604,800 in a week. This tool keeps the factors straight so you do not have to, whether you are setting a timeout in milliseconds or planning a schedule in weeks.
The numbers to keep in your head
| Unit | In seconds | Also |
|---|---|---|
| 1 minute | 60 | |
| 1 hour | 3,600 | 60 minutes |
| 1 day | 86,400 | 1,440 minutes |
| 1 week | 604,800 | 168 hours |
| 1 year (365 d) | 31,536,000 | 8,760 hours |
Where the conversions bite
Two gotchas. First, milliseconds: code and stopwatches work in ms (1 s = 1,000 ms), so a “30000” timeout is 30 seconds, not 30 minutes. Second, the year: this tool uses a flat 365-day year. A real calendar year averages 365.2425 days, so over long spans multiply by about 1.00066, and a leap year is 366/365 ≈ 1.00274 longer.
Rates and durations
If you are working out how far something travels in a given time, or how long a distance takes, pair this with the speed converter. For data-transfer times (file size over a connection speed) the data size converter handles the other half.
FAQ
How many seconds are in a day?
Exactly 86,400 (24 × 60 × 60).
How many hours are in a week?
168 (7 × 24).
How many minutes are in a year?
525,600 for a 365-day year (365 × 24 × 60).
Does this converter handle leap years?
No - it uses a 365-day year. For a 366-day leap year, multiply the "year" result by 366/365 ≈ 1.00274.
How do I convert milliseconds to seconds?
Divide by 1,000. A 5,000 ms delay is 5 seconds.
